The Activa from the house of HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) emerges to be the first scooter in India to cross the milestone of 10 million or one crore sales. The manufacturer based in Japan has another first as its scooter sales have crossed 2.5 lakh units in July. This is the highest that a domestic manufacturer has managed to achieve in one month.

In 2001, when the Honda Activa scooter was introduced in the country’s two-wheeler market, it achieved a sales figure of 55,000 units. The model has become the top model in the market in three years of time. Since then, the Honda Activa witnessed a massive growth as it has sold 2.1 million units of the two-wheeler in the last fiscal year. Eventually, Honda two-wheelers have a market share of 59 percent in the Indian market making the manufacturer the dominator in the segment.

As per the comment by Keita Muramatsu, the President and Chief Executive of HMSI, this is a significant achievement for company. Activa, the automatic scooter has garnered the trust of the customers in India. Yadvinder Singh Guleria, the Senior Vice President of Honda’s Sales and Marketing division stated that Honda is the first two-wheeler vendor to sell over 2.5 lakh units in a month.

He further stated that in the last decade there was no clue that Activa would again be the market leader. Now, the Honda Activa has broken the record. It is the only automatic scooter that is the top most two-wheller in the market for the month of July. This demand for the automatic scooters is expected to rise.

One of the advanced features of Activa is Honda’s Eco Technology delivering a mileage of 60 kmpl. The other features are four stroke engine, V-matic transmission (gearless), durable metallic body, tubeless tyres, combi-brake system and convenient lift-up independent conveniences.
