Japanese car maker Nissan to develop ‘Made in India’ car in next 5-6 years

Feb 4, 2013: Nissan which has a global alliance partnership with Renault and an R&D centre in Chennai, India is planning to develop ‘Made in India’ car in next 5-6 years. Renault plans to do this by doubling the existing strength of 3,600 people working in Renault-Nissan Technology and Business Centre in India. Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. is planning to set up complete testing facilities so that they have the capabilities to develop the platform for an indigenous vehicle. They are also taking stock of the issues which they have with Hover Automotive India (HAI) who are their distribution and service partner. Off late the company has been witnessing some unrest from a section of dealers of HAI.

In a statement by Takayuki Ishida, NMIPL MD and CEO, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. “The priority will obviously be to develop products for the Indian market. The centre will also work for other market in association with our other global research centres… We are still at initial planning stages.”
