Micromax overtakes Samsung to become India’s leading mobile phone vendor: CounterPoint Research Report

August 5, 2014: Close on the heels of the Canalys report which revealed that Motorola has overtaken Nokia to become the fourth largest smartphone vendor in India in Quarter 2 of 2014 another report has come out and this time the report is by CounterPoint Research. The report by CounterPoint Research claims that Micromax has overtaken Samsung in India based on shipments to become the leading mobile phone vendor in India.

The report suggests that Micromax has got Handset Shipment share of 16.6 per cent followed by Samsung with 14.4 per cent. Nokia has got a shipment share of 10.9 per cent, Karbonn 9.5 per cent followed by Lava which has 5.6 per cent. Other players like Blackberry, Xiaomi and all have got a shipment share of 43.0 per cent. CounterPoint Research reports that the Indian mobile phone market grew 2% annually and smartphone segment grew 68% annually.

In the Global Handset Shipment share, Samsung dominates the market with 21.8 per cent share followed by Microsoft Mobile (Nokia) with 10.9 per cent. According to the research report, Samsung is the leading smartphone vendor with 25.3% market share and Micromax comes second with 19.1% market share. Karbonn, Motorola and Nokia hold the next three spots.
