Samsung to launch Galaxy Note 5 with dual SIM support

The South Korean smartphone maker Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy Note 5 dual SIM. This is the first high end dual SIM smartphone to be launched by the company with the objective to strengthen its dominance in the premium smartphone segment where it competes with Apple.

The Note 5 dual SIM will be the first flagship smartphone from Samsung to feature dual SIM card support. It is priced at Rs 51.400 and Rs 57,400 for the 32 GB and 64 GB variants respectively. This dual SIM flagship model will go on sale from January 17.

In the high end smartphone segment, there has a strong trend of people making use of the dual SIM smartphones in the A series of Samsung. Consumers prefer premium devices that have dual SIM support, stated Manu Sharma, the Director of Product Marketing, Samsung India.

He stated that the demand for the dual SIM smartphones in the price bracket of Rs 15,000 – Rs 30,000 is very large. Even the attach rate is quite high in this segment. They are expecting more takers in the premium smartphone segment. The premium smartphone segment totals to nearly 3 percent of the smartphone sales in terms of volume. When it comes to value, the share of this segment is 23 percent.

Samsung stated that it dominates the smartphone market segment that is priced above Rs 30,000 onwards and it has a share of 48.1 percent. The dual SIM strategy might be well extended to the other flagship models such as Galaxy Edge and Edge Plus to enable the manufacturer solidify its lead position.

Sharma added that they will continue making products that will address the opportunity and will drive the dual SIM market as well in the premium segment. Samsung competes with homegrown manufacturers such as Micromax and Intex. The joint share of the two vendors is 45.9 percent in November 2015, which is a major jump from the share in December 2014 that is 34.2 percent.
