October 19, 2013: In what is termed to be a major move by the Indian mobile handset brand Micromax, the company has signed Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman to be the brand ambassador for its new smartphone Canvas Turbo.  Jackman who has starred in movies like “The Wolverine”, “Prisoners” etc would be looking forward to give a major thrust to the Micromax brand at an international level.

In a statement made by Hugh Jackman, he was quoted as saying “The new Canvas phone from Micromax is a leap in innovation with great sense of fun and amazing features that helps me balance my work with all the different roles that I play in my everyday life.”

In a statement from Micromax, the company said that Micromax family believes Jackman “truly embodies the aspirational, reinventing and fearless persona of the brand”.

Micromax off late has been launching a lot of models in the smartphone category and posing a serious threat to players like Samsung and Nokia in the Indian market. This move comes on the close heels of another development in the company i.e. CEO of Micromax, Deepak Mehrotra has quit the company. In a statement by the company, Deepak Mehrotra quit the company due to personal reasons and Micromax is on the lookout for a new CEO.
