May 25, 2014: The popular consumer electronics appliance company, Philips is all set to make a comeback to the Indian market. The company is going to announce a new range of smartphones and feature phones on May 28th. It may be recalled that the company withdrew models from the market once the mobile phone business division was acquired by China Electronics Corporation (CEC) who is the parent company of Sang Fei who is currently bringing the new range of models to the market again.
Though we are yet to have any update on the features and pricing of these models, we can expect them to target multiple segments with different pricing points. Motorola recently launched a high end smartphone at an affordable price, it may be way forward for Philips too if it needs to penetrate this fast growing, but highly competitive and crowded market place. It wont be easy as Samsung, Microsoft, Sony, etc are also rolling out models aggressively targeting Indian market. Then there is competition from the desi players like Karbonn and Micromax too.
We need to wait till May 28th to see the models being launched by Philips.
