June 5, 2014: According to reports in different media Hyundai is planning to launch a premium hatchback in India and it even suggests that it could be the i30. Hundai has got an impressive line up of five calls in the small car segment which includes Hyundai Santro, Hyundai Eon, Hyundai i10, Hyundai i10 Grand and Hyundai i20 and now it is being said that the Korean car manufacturer would be launching a hatchback which could be positioned above the i20. Hyundai with this move is likely to consolidate its position in the hatchback segment in India which accounts for nearly 68 per cent of the total cars sold in India.
The reports suggest that the new hatchback from Hyundai will be powered with 84PS, 1.2 litre Kappa petrol engine and will be more spacious and targeted at professionals and executive class with large disposable income. Though the new hatchback from Hyundai would be more spacious like a mid-size sedan, it would have great maneuverability to zip through the city traffic in India. The second largest car maker in India, Hyundai would also be launching a diesel option of the vehicle as well with a 1.1 U2 CRDi motor used in the new Grand i10. Expected to be priced between Rs.7 lakh to Rs.9 lakh the new hatchback would be having both a manual and an automatic transmission. Hyundai might launch the new hatchback probably the i30 in the month of September this year.
