July 7, 2014: After tasting success by using autorickshaw drivers for selling Uninor SIM cards in Maharashtra, Uninor is thinking of expanding this model to other five circles. This unique marketing initiative which started as a pilot project by involving autorickshaw drivers started growing big and now milkmen and newspaper delivery boys also sell Uninor SIMs and recharge coupons. Earlier passionateinmarketing.com had reported about this unique initiative of Uninor. Read more about it here.

Speaking about the expansion of this approach, Rajeev Sethi, Chief Marketng Office at Uninor was quoted as saying, “We would want to reach a customer at his place and that’s where our autorickshaw driver and milkman concept comes into picture. Our approach is more targeted.”

Initially during the project time, Uninor, trained 30 auto drivers to sell their SIM cards and recharge coupons. The auto drivers collected SIM cards and recharge vouchers from a local dealer who also verified the documents of the new customer.

The company as part of this marketing initiative offers the same commission that it offers to a shop retailer and this mode of sales allow auto drivers to earn around Rs. 2500 per month for 50-60 transactions in a month. Being near to the customers and remaining close to them has helped the company clinch a better market after this initiative was launched.
