August 2, 2014: The next generation Hyundai i20 will be dubbed Elite i20 and it is tipped to arrive on August 11. It is said that the Elite i20 will be launched globally on the aforementioned date with its highlights such as refreshed exterior. The manufacturer has also revealed the first design sketches of the 2015 model adding excitement to the arrival of the Elite i20.
From the sketches, it is clear that the Elite i20 is styled based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2 theme with a longer wheelbase than the one in the current model resulting in more interior space. Along with a refresh of the interiors, the car will be bringing a slew of new technologies. Also, the images that have hit the web earlier reveal the exterior and interior of the car along with its possible design language. The front of the car appears to feature a new hexagonal grille and a slim horizontal strip connecting the headlamps. At the rear, the upcoming Hyundai Elite i20 will get a wrap-around kind of rear window and taillights that will be integrated into the boot lid.
Talking about the interiors, it will get a new 3-stroke steering wheel with controls for music system, multi-information display and a white-on-black instrument cluster integrated in it. Also, the music system is likely to be capable of playing Bluetooth, AUX-in, USB, CD, MP3 and Radio along with automatic climate control. Other than looks, on the mechanical front the Hyundai Elite i20 will be similar to the current model. This suggests that the vehicle will come with two power-trains including 1.2 and 1.4 litre engines with only minor modifications.
Once launched, the Hyundai Elite i20 is likely to face a stiff competition with the newly launched Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Fiat Punto Evo. Also, the car is said to be priced competitively around Rs 5 lakh to 7.5 lakh to stir the competition further.
