DuPont Partners with Reliance and Vipul for Sorona Based Green Sarees

Dupont, the US based technology giant has partnered with Reliance Industries and Vipul Sarees in an attempt to give a green touch to the Indian sarees. Dupont has joined hands with the two Indian firms in order to use its renewable fibre product called Sorona that will enable making eco-friendly versions of ethnic ladies wear.

For Dupont, agriculture and food, industrial biosciences and advanced materials are the key drivers in the country and it is expected to witness a growth of 13 percent from this segment in the next year. Regarding this, DuPont President, South Asia and ASEAN, Balvinder Singh Kalsi told thatIndiais a strategic market for the overall growth of the firm. It is claimed thatIndiais the eighth largest country for Dupont in terms of revenue.

The executive added that the firm is expecting to witness a significant 12 to 13 percent increase in its sales inIndiain the coming year. However, he declined to share the current revenue figures achieve from the country. It was added that Dupont will continue its focus on brining sustainable, eco-friendly products that are suited for the Indian market.

Regarding Sorona based green sarees, the executive claimed that Dupont has partnered with the industry Veterans and this will enable the firm to bring all the essential elements to provide compelling products for the Indian consumers. These green sarees will be made using a yarn of Sorona fibre that is developed from renewable plant based sources and not traditional synthetic fibres sourced from fossil fuels. According to the partnership, Reliance will produce the yarns of Sorona fibres and Vipul will create the sarees.

About this development, Reliance Polyester Sector Head, Rakesh Gaur said that they are pleased to bring yarns of Sorona fibre to the Indian textile industry via their collaboration with Dupont. Vipul will make these eco-friendly sarees available across its 1,000 stores that are spread across 100 cities inIndia. Also, Vipul Fashions Managing Director Anil Agarwal said that their premium collection of sarees made from Sorona will be superior in softness and color brilliance of silk, despite being light weight and easy to maintain.

Notably, Dupont has been a pioneer when it comes to innovations in the fabric industry for over a century and it is known for its products such as rayon, nylon and lycra.
