Datsun which earlier launched Go a very basic functional car in India has now come out and launched Go+ at an aggressive price of Rs.3.79 lakh. Positioned as a compact family wagon rather than a compact MPV it is surely going to start an all new segment in the Indian car market. Datsun which is not calling Go+ a compact SUV is longer than Go and accomodate seven seats which will give more functionality to the Indian customers.
Datsun Go+ which shares the same interiors as Go will be available in 4 variants i.e. D, D+, A and T. The compact family wagon will be powered by a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder engine that will offer 68PS of peak power and a peak torque of 104Nm. Datsun Go+ is full of practicality and no frills and has got a very basic styling as far as the dashboard is concerned. The dashboard of Go+ is styled in grey and black. The front and middle seat rows of Datsun Go+ are quite comfortable and offer great head room and shoulder room but the last row is near impossible to use by an adult and is best suited to children.Folding the seats flat of Go+ does result in a lot of luggage space.
Datsun which has taken a different marketing strategy by position Go+ as a compact family wagon and not a compact MPV will definitely put the spotlight on its immediate competitor Maruti Wagon R which also has a station-wagon or wagon body style. It is rumoured that Maruti is planning to come out with a seven seater Wagon R to checkmate Go+ but it remains to be seen how these vehicles are going to carve a space for themselves in 2015 which is going to witness a lot of new launches from other car manufacturers.
