On Monday, General Motors India announced that it will be launching a new SUV called Chevrolet Trailblazer this year and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) called Spin in 2016. This was announced during the GM India dealer meet that was hosted inBangkokon February 13. Notably, the firm has already imported these vehicles toIndiato carry out research and development.
Regarding this, Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, General Motors India claimed that GM India’s focus is on expanding its presence inIndiaby augmenting its products and their quality. Arvind Saxena and the Executive Vice President of GM India and GM International President Stefan Jacoby added that the firm is in plans to export around 19,000 cars to around 40 countries across the world.
Regarding this, Jacoby added that the firm recognizes that there is a growth potential inIndiaand hence, they are focused on ensuring long term sustainability. He further started that it is possible by providing exciting, high quality and competitive products.
General Motors did not fare well with the entry level MPV called Chevrolet Enjoy, but it will try its fortune again with the upcoming MPV model called Spin. There are speculations that Enjoy will be replaced by Spin as both are seven-seater models. Being an up-market offering, Spin is likely to compete with Honda Mobilio, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and forthcoming Renualt Lodgy.
When it comes to Trailblazer, the full fledged SUV is based on the pick up truckColorado. Showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, the model has taken three years to finally make it into the market. Following the launch of the Trailblazer SUV, Chevrolet will compete with the likes of Mitsubhishi Pajero, Toyota Fortuner and upcoming Ford Endeavour.
For now, two units of Trailblazer are under testing inIndiaand these are claimed to be powered by 2.8 litre diesel engine and 6 speed automatic gearbox. They are said to be capable of rendering 180 bhp maximum power output and 470 Nm torque respectively.
