India’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra will come up a small diesel powered commercial passenger vehicle. This will be developed at Zaheerabad in Telangana. The proposed four-wheeler commercial passenger vehicle will be based on a new platform and it will be equipped with the m-Dura diesel engine that has been developed for the commercial vehicles.
Regarding this, Pawan Goenka stated that the launch of this new product will happen over a year from now. This was revealed at the launch of Jeeto that is a small commercial vehicle at Zaheerabad on Tuesday
Jeeto has been positioned against the best sellers in the segment including Tata Ace and Zip and Piaggio Ape Extra LD. The Jeeto assures to render a fuel efficiency of 27.8 kmpl to 37.6 kmpl based on the model.
Jeeto is the second platform launch from Mahindra & Mahindra after the launch of the Maaximo, claimed Goenka. He also stated that the manufacturer is expecting to witness huge volumes of opportunity from the three-wheeler, minitruck and micro-truck market segments.
As of now, Mahindra & Mahindra has invested a sum of Rs 300 crore in the light commercial vehicle manufacturing plant that is located at Zaheerabad in Telegana. Also, the firm has invested Rs 100 crore in the development of the m-Dura engine that will be used by the upcoming small commercial passenger vehicle. Furthermore, Goenka stated that Mahindra & Mahindra is in plans to invest another Rs 150 crore on the proposed vehicle facility.
Mahindra & Mahindra has a capacity of producing 92,000 units of the newly launched Jeeto on an annual basis. There seems to be more scope to expand this capacity to 150,000 units.
The manufacturer is aiming to export the Jeeto to the neighboring countries such asBhutan,Nepal.BangladeshandSri Lanka.
