Though Mahindra & Mahindra the largest utility vehicle manufacturer in India has shifted its focus towards the urban sports utility vehicles in the fiscal year 2016, the maker has not lost on its core strategy of making strong rugged SUVs. On Thursday, the company has announced a new version of Thar, its lifestyle off-road vehicle priced at Rs 8.03 lakh as per the ex-showroom pricing in Nashik.
The new Thar CRDe is claimed to be made available only in select markets initially. It is touted to arrive with a host of new exterior modifications including front and rear bumpers, clear lens headlamp, wheel arches and redesigned side footstep with canopy. Talking of the interior, the new Thar features a new dual tone dashboard, steering wheel, new gear knob, wider seats and redesigned AC vents among other features.
In order to provide an improved off-road capability, the manufacturer has launched mechanical locking rear differential technology that will engage without the intervention of the drive automatically. The vehicle features off-road aspects such as 44 degree approach angle, 27 degree departure angle, 4 wheel drive with low and high ratios that are powered by a 2.5 litre CRDe engine with high ground clearance of 200 mm.
Regarding the launch, Pravin Shah, the President and Chief Executive of Automobile at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd stated that since the launch of the Thar, the vehicle is considered an ideal one for the tough and rugged DNA that is a continuation of the legacy that Mahindra stands for. Now, the new avatar of the vehicle has been designed to enhance the appeal of the brand that has created a trend. The customers are looking for a different lifestyle greatly and they seek fun and adventure experience. The Thar will be the perfect companion for such adventurous people.
Over the years, Thar has played a major role in shaping the lifestyle vehicle category in the country. There are six seats and the rear two can be folded to make the luggage area larger.
The vehicle is available in a BS IV variant with standard fitment that is the power steering paving way for a comfortable drive. There is a range of genuine accessories and customization options available for the vehicle.
