Aug 25, 2012: Growing demand for Indian carpets in foreign markets has increased the carpet exports by 6% to reach $72 million in July. The exporters are receiving a good number of orders from markets like Latin America, China and Africa, according to Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC).
CEPC hopes that the demand for carpets to pick up in US and European markets. Handmade silk carpets is the category among the carpets that have registered high growth which is 43%. As per the reports by CEPC, carpet exports in India is expected t0 reach $1 billion this fiscal year.
