Twitter has reopened the process of profile authentication after three years. Following the outrage over the authentication of the profile of a white supremacist, Twitter ceased verifying profiles on November 16, 2017. Now, however, the portal is available for all to apply their authentication requests. In December 2020, the micro-blogging site opened a portal for feedback on the verification process.

In an announcement of the move, Twitter said in a blog,“Through a modern, self-service application process that will be available on the Account Settings page on the site and in-app, we are pleased to relaunch public authentication applications in 2021. The procedure would include telling applicants to choose their verified status group and confirming their identity through links and other supporting content.”

So in order to apply for a blue tick, the user of Twitter will have to go to the Account Settings menu, then tap the Authentication Request button. The customer would need to check his identification to have different links to verify his identity and work-related information. The following categories should include people who can apply for verification, including government, brands and organizations, companies, news organizations and journalists, sports, entertainment, and games, organizers, campaigners, and other relevant individuals.

Twitter has announced that the withdrawal of badges from inactive accounts from January 22 onwards,” As part of our latest verification program, we’ll remove verification badges from expired and incomplete profiles. We have specifically reached out to those who need to take action to remain confirmed.”

Following the uproar over verifying the profile of a white nationalist, Twitter stopped the verification process in 2017. The organization explained that verification is not a form of endorsing, and Twitter does not promote someone by placing a blue badge next to their profile. However, Twitter started to refine users after the delay, but the process was internalized.
