Harit Umang Olympiad held by Panasonic India honors Green Ambassadors

Panasonic India, a leading diversified technology company, celebrated World Environment Day by completing its Harit Umang Olympiad, a school awareness programme, and honouring over 100 students from 26 schools for their outstanding efforts in the fields of responsible e-waste disposal, plastic waste management, energy conservation, and tree planting.

Panasonic India reached out to over 347 schools as part of the Harit Umang Olympiad to raise awareness and educate students about environmental concerns like as e-waste, plastic waste management, energy conservation, and tree planting. The Olympiad included a variety of expert-led educational sessions, interactive workshops, and fun contests aimed at encouraging students to adopt green habits.

The felicitation was addressed by addressing each of the subjects by Guest of Honour   Sandip Chatterjee, Director/ Scientist (F), (MEITY); Saurabh Diddi, Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency; Priti Mahesh, Toxics Link; Sahaana Sankar, Vice President, Hand in Hand India; N. Krishnan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Hand in Hand India; Manish Sharma, President & CEO, Panasonic India and South Asia and Ritu Ghosh, Associate Director, Corporate Affairs & CSR, Panasonic India.

“Panasonic’s vision – “A Better Life, A Better World” – has been essentially the firm principle that encourages us to also develop the desired products, and also to be environmentally aware wherein we perform and acknowledge its effect on business sustainability,” Manish Sharma, President and CEO of Panasonic India and South Asia, stated.

This year, Panasonic’s “Harit Umang” initiative included not just urban but also rural youngsters by assisting them in planting trees on desolate land. The farmers’ revenue increased as a result of the weed infestation being replaced with trees.

“A number of 1 lakh tree seedlings of various varieties were planted with the cooperation of rural agricultural groups, Gram Panchayats, and school over MP, Haryana, TN, UP, and the NCR area. We feel that actions like tree planting and teaching young Indians about environmental problems are a tiny but important step toward preserving the ecosystem,” Sharma explained.

“Since introduction of the Harit Umang initiative in 2019, we’ve been constantly exposed to not just educating consciousness but also boosting green policies by effective interactions with educational institutions,” says Ritu Ghosh, Associate Director, Panasonic India’s Corporate Affairs & CSR.

Through the Harit Umang Olympiad, we intend to continuously communicate the idea of sustainability by nurturing younger generation to ‘Green ambassadors,’ who could really assist us accomplish our goal of a greener future.

Panasonic India, in collaboration with Hand in Hand India, planted 1 lakh tree saplings with the help of over 1700 rural farmers, 122 Gram Panchayats, and schools in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and the NCR region as part of the ‘Harit Umang’ – Joy of Green, Bio-diversity programme focusing on environmental conservation.
