To raise awareness about the declining tiger population within the world, International Tiger Day was celebrated on July 29.
The decline happened in the 20th century and slowly the rise again due to the continued efforts of the people. For every four years, India prepares a report on tigers and the latest report released in 2018.
The project report started in India in 1973, which is a unique plan to save tigers on the planet. In these developing years, there are 9 tiger reserves, but the Tiger project coverage has increased to 50.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, around 95 percent of the world’s tiger population was lost. Based on the WWF over 3,900 tigers left the world.
Tigers are one of the largest species of the cat family and most iconic animals in the world. There may be 100000 tigers about a century ago that roam on the Planet.
The ambitious goal set up by the government of the 13 range countries is to double the wild tigers by 2022.
The first international Tigers day was first introduced in 2010 in Russia at Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit to raise awareness about the tigers. At the summit, they declared that the government of tiger-populated countries has vowed to double the tiger population by 2020. There are several events organized by various animal organizations like WWF, IFAW, and some other.
The main reasons behind the decline of the tiger’s population are
Poaching: For the traditional Chinese medicines, tigers face a problem of poaching where there is a huge demand for every part of the tiger and, they keep high prices on illegal wildlife trades.
Habitat loss: These days with an increase in population forests are becoming less and clearing of forests for several reasons like industries etc. It made a loss of 93 percent of the natural habitats of tigers.
Climate change: due to climate change lead to the wiping of Sundarbans.
Diseases are also the reason and key factors for declining. The diseases spread like Feline Panleucopania, Tuberculosis, etc.
Based on the report released the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018’ India has achieved the 2022 target in the country. India has almost more than 2,500 tigers and before the deadline, India received the target.
