Technology, one of the turning points of this generation. Nothing can proceed without the use of technology. Let’s take the example of decreased use of payphones since the invention of mobile devices to call and connect loved ones living far away from us; mobile devices are also erasing from the face of the earth when we have smartphones with “Apps” that enables us to call and see users interact with them even better. The wonder of technology is fascinating. But have you ever considered the implications these Apps have on our mental capabilities?

Applications, often abbreviated as Apps, are programmed networks on which we can perform tasks. Some of the well-known apps are Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and many more. Applications vary in its algorithms serving users content such as games, cooking, meditation, e-books, even business-related as well as market share or market fluctuations. In other words, we are depended on these Apps to make life or business decisions.

There have been debates over whether Apps really affect the mental health of individuals. If you look deeper, in a way, it does. Apps are designed in such a way that it provides users the content that may keep them engaged making them spend more time in it. It has all got to do with algorithms and intelligent programming. The creators of the application programs the algorithm in such a way that it can understand the user’s needs by navigating the searches the user makes or the posts the user likes and saves. On Instagram, for example, a user likes an artist page, searches, and follows artistic hashtags. The algorithm of Instagram picks this up immediately and tries to show the user more artistic content and also artists on Instagram the user may potentially like. In other words, these are called data. Data of users are so significant to create or enhance a program or a business decision. It is a modern method of collecting surveys. Instead, we spend less physical energy but more of technical energy to capture these details. Crazy how the back-end of a system works.

AI has been developed and is still developing to be man’s best friend. It is so smart that with the use of Deep Learning, and machine language it can change its course of action to cater to both the needs of its creator and the user. AI may not seem directly related to affect our psychological judgments, but it is. We are guided by the choices that are presented in front of us. Need to deep relax? AI has already got your back!
