Why is Quantum Computing Gaining Importance?

In 2019, Google declared with great fanfare that it had reached “quantum supremacy” – a level at which a quantum machine could accomplish a function that would be difficult for a traditional computer to accomplish. To gain quantum superiority, Google claimed that it’s Quantum Computer can solve a calculation in 200 seconds, which would have taken 10000 years for a supercomputer to accomplish. Although IBM protested the claim saying that Google had immensely underestimated the capacity of its supercomputers.

Quantum computing:
In basic words, quantum computers are unbelievably powerful machines capable of solving nearly insoluble problems. If a person thinks that the smartphone makes computers look extremely old; quantum computers will make our current state-of-the-art technology look like something out of the Stone Age.

Traditional computers are, in their hearts, very fast versions of the simplest electronic calculators. They can only process one “bit” of information at a time, in the form of binary 1 or 0. — bit is like an on / off button – with 0 meaning “off” and 1 meaning “on.” Any function you perform on a conventional machine, no matter how complicated, essentially requires millions of bits.

However, quantum computers do not depend on bits; they employ “qubits.” And often qubits, due to the magic of quantum mechanics, are not limited to being either on or off. They could be both at the same moment, or maybe they’re anything in between. That’s because quantum computation is harnessing the unusual processes that take place at a sub-atomic stage. It helps quantum computers to look at several different variables at the same time, which ensures they will explore more situations in the most limited timeframe than all the quickest machines operating today.

Achieving quantum dominance is obviously a significant achievement, but we are also a long way from commercially freely available quantum computers coming into the market. For now, the latest quantum computing activity remains restricted to labs and big tech companies including Google, IBM, and Microsoft.

The combined use AI and Quantum Computing to benefit in future development:

AI and ML are effective ways to ask a machine to react to a question based on historical knowledge. It may be complicated, for example, to tell a machine what a cat is. Now, if you display enough neural network pictures of cats and inform them they ‘re pets, then the machine would be able to accurately recognize the other pets you haven’t seen before.

It seems that some of the most popular and commonly employed AI and ML algorithms may be greatly speeded up while operating on quantum computers. For some algorithms, we are even anticipating accelerated speed-ups, which clearly do not mean solving problems faster, but instead turning an initially enormous challenge and making it possible, or perhaps even quick. One of the areas currently under consideration is in the field of artificial intelligence in financial services. Quantum physics is predictable, which means that the results constitute a projected distribution. In certain cases, where results are controlled by imprecise and unexpected relationships between different input variables, quantum computers have the ability to help forecast the distribution which contributes to an even accurate answer.

So far as AI / ML is concerned, the capacity for classical and quantum to work together comes from the flexible structure of the cloud and the strong, precise problem-solving capabilities of quantum computing. While a lot of people are looking at quantum and classical computation, yet, it would ultimately be the two of them working together in a harmonious way to solve problems and co-operation.

Both have strengths and the development is now for quantum computing to function as part of the solution. With time, all computational technologies will continue to develop, but the opportunity to boost workloads on standard GPUs and ASICs while still utilizing the strength of quantum computing is a blueprint for quicker, more reliable performance, which the industry will be willing to see as quantum computing.

Use of Quantum Computers:

Some of the ways in which Quantum Computers can be highly useful for companies are:
Quantum computers could transform data protection technologies by providing essentially unbreakable encryption.
Quantum computing will offer a huge boost to AI, as these superfast machines would be much more successful in detecting data patterns.
Modeling traffic is an immensely complicated process with a large number of variables, but Volkswagen researchers have been running quantum pilot programs to design and enhance traffic flow through city centers in Beijing, Barcelona, and Lisbon.

Just about anything that requires complex modeling might make quantum computation more effective. The UK Met Office has reported that it agrees that quantum computers provide a far more sophisticated simulation ability than is actually possible and that this is one of the approaches being pursued developing next-generation forecasting systems.

Biotech company ProteinQure has been examining the power of quantum computation in protein simulation, a crucial route in drug production. In other terms, quantum computing may contribute to the development of powerful new cures for some of the world’s biggest killers, including cancer and cardiac disease.

Most experts believe that genuinely valuable quantum computing is unlikely to be an aspect of everyday life and even if quantum computers are available commercially, we, as individuals, will hardly line up to buy one. For most of the tasks that we perform on computers and smartphones, a traditional binary computer or smartphone will be all we need. Yet at the level of business and culture, quantum computing will have many interesting results in the future.
