The world had been a silent spectator of the Taliban taking its roots in Afghanistan. The series of events that have followed were hard to see. Families being killed, people getting homeless, the sights have been hard to withstand.
Refugees from Afghanistan have been running for their lives ever since this blood bath happened. Airbnb has news that will at least give some relief to the refugees. The company and its charitable arm, Airbnb.org, have partnered with resettlement agencies to house 20,000 Afghan refugees globally for free. The company will be paying the hosts who are ready to accommodate the refugees.
Airbnb.org refugee fund will also be used to borne the cost. Airbnb.org was launched in June to support asylum seekers and refugees. Airbnb urged its hosts to join the cause by offering a discounted rate or free short-term stays, and also donate money.
It is not clear as to how long they can stay, but Airbnb ensures that its non-profit partners will assist it to have the next advancements. Airbnb’s CEO Brian Chesky expressed his gratitude to the hosts for granting their homes to the refugees.
This being one of the biggest crises of our time, the company felt that it is their responsibility to step up, as an act to inspire other business leaders to do the same. Airbnb has been providing this kind of service since 2012’s Hurricane Sandy in New York City. Over 1,000 hosts opened their homes to the evacuees.
The COVID pandemic, that hit the globe last year, Airbnb helped provide healthcare workers and first responders on the front lines with housing and other essential amenities. As the company says that in times of need, every affluent firm must extend a helping hand towards the people who are suffering.
On August 15, the Taliban took over Afghanistan, it was a shock beyond measure. Many businesses around the globe have done much-needed activities for ensuring that the suffering people are given some hope in this time of distress and those fleeing Afghanistan now have to face a new challenge of building a new life in a new country.
Companies such as Walmart, Verizon, and Texas Medical Technology have offered their help to more than 100 thousand people, who have fled to the US as well as providing jobs to many people.
