Google announced a list of new product features and partnerships at their seventh edition of Google for India, focused at stretching the benefits of India’s growing digital economy.

These announcements highlight Google’s increasing attention on product innovations that will enable new Internet users in the country to get easy access to information in Indian languages. This will create more simple ways for local language speakers to interact with the internet, get more from the Android experience and support India’s small businesses.

Google announced the launch of 100,000 scholarships for Google Career Certificates collaborating with NASSCOM Foundation, SafeEducate, and Tata STRIVE who will help in identifying disadvantaged learners across the country for a free registration to a Google Career Certificate of their choice.

The Certificates are available via Coursera for IT Support, Project Management, Data Analytics, UX Design and IT Automation. Google is working together with an initial set of companies that recognize the certificates.

Along with Google India, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Accenture in India, Times Internet, Genpact, Times Internet and Better.com will recognize the certificates and more will be added to the employer pool.

Google’s core information products helped to get the information of more than 10,000 hospitals with covid beds across the country.

Commendable attempts were made to see users through booking vaccination appointments on the COWIN portal with voice guidance in English and local languages.

To enable this integration, Google had to work closely with COWIN. A new internet user will now be able to book an appointment easily. The feature will be available in Chrome on Android, and will begin rolling out in early 2022.

A feature that will read search results out loud is also being lauched in India, making it easier for users who prefer listening than reading. To further simplify digital payments, Google Pay announced on November 25, an additional option of selecting Hinglish as a preferred language on Google Pay.

Also announced, is the upcoming launch of speech to text which allows users to use their voice to input account numbers into the app for initiating payments and an extra feature to split bills for shared expenses.
