India has surpassed China as the world’s third most polluted country, with 11 of the top 12 most polluted cities, a tremendous push toward sustainable practices is required. This is a dangerous scenario that necessitates rapid action.

Given the terrible situation and the urgency, our answer must be SOS, and we must begin doing our part right away by implementing sustainable habits. CNN-News18, India’s main English news station, has launched the #SOS campaign to increase awareness and promote eco-friendly behaviours.

According to studies, India requires 1,600 to 4,000 air quality monitors due to its size, population, and deteriorating environmental pollution, but also has 804 as of September 16, 2021, most of which are located in urban areas.

Environmental ignorance has resulted in a massive environmental disaster. As a result, CNN-News18 will encourage viewers to take little actions toward sustainability in their daily lives as part of the campaign.

#SOS will try to highlight how little efforts may have a national influence through a multi-phased approach. This programme will raise awareness by holding dialogues with famous professionals to see how they have implemented sustainable practices and are contributing to a brighter future.

To further reinforce the campaign, the channel has enlisted the help of celebrities such as Priyanka Chaturvedi and Vani Murthy, who will offer their messages on sustainable practices. They will explore techniques to promote eco-friendly behaviours while digging into phasing out hazardous habits.

The channel will also spotlight challenges from various areas of life, such as marine degradation, air pollution, and deforestation, as part of the campaign. CNN-News18 India has solidified it’s by voicing the most significant stories.

The channel aims to make a good difference in society through a variety of interesting projects.

The spread of pollutants such as sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrous dioxide (NO2), respirable PM 10, finer particulate matter or PM 2.5, lead, carbon monoxide (CO), and ammonia is unknown in India.

According to the World Health Organization, chronic exposure to these pollutants increases the chance of acquiring conditions such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, as well as lung cancer.

Both outdoor and indoor air pollution is a problem in rural regions. The indiscriminate use of insecticides/pesticides sprays, as well as the burning of wheat and paddy straw, are major contributors to outdoor air pollution.

The concentration of ozone in the atmosphere is higher in rural areas than in metropolitan ones.
