As per India Skills Report 2021, India requires a skilled talent pool with experience in emerging technologies to aid the emerging economy.
Since the 2010s, smart technology started to play a prominent role in our life. The pandemic has speeded up its adoption in our life. This means that future opportunities depend on knowledge and skill about these technologies.
The tech ranges from artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, Internet-of-things (IoT), and big data. AI and related courses have an immense scope, where people from any background can adopt it as a career.
The problem is that, it is new in India and students and parents lack general awareness of it. To cater to this demand IIT, IIIT Delhi, SRM Institute of Science and Technology now offer degrees and online certification courses.
In India, there is a 45% increase in the adoption rate of AI with 94% of companies in India believing AI will help generate more opportunities.
Another emerging field of new tech is data science. According to NASSCOM, India’s data science and analytics industry will reach $15b by 2025, i.e., it will be at par with the global data market by 32%, worth around $2b.
The reason for the growth is the day-to-day increase in the volume of data generated across industries. According to the World Economic Forum prediction, data analysts and scientists will emerge as the prominent career role in the world.
Students should be at par with such emerging sciences to be part of the future. These programs are apt for those who are progressive, futuristic and industry-ready. After studying it, they can enter any field in any sector.
Emerging professions in data science are big data engineer, data engineer, data architect, machine learning engineer, data scientist etc.
Another emerging field of new tech is the IoT or Internet-of-things. It provides many opportunities to develop many new-age skills as it combines many industries. This tech connects smart electronic devices from sensors to cloud servers.
From personal application to industrial use, IoT is used across various sectors. The global IoT market is projected to grow from $381.30b in 2021 to $1,854.76b in 2028.
Among the institutes that offer such courses, Madras IIT sees y-o-y growth in the number of certified learners in all three domains. According to the India Skills 2020 report, the median age of India’s population stood at 26.8 years old.
45.9% of the Indian youth are employed, while 85.92% search for an internship to kickstart their careers. These emerging technologies will help broaden the scope of new-age professions.
