The Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD), in collaboration with NABARD, recently addressed Mithapur residents about climate change and biodiversity through a climate change awareness program. It also hosted a Biodiversity and Eco Fair, which drew a total of 44 teams, comprising 48 firm personnel, 114 school kids, and 84 students from the Technical Training Institute (TTI).

The climate change education program was split into two parts. The first is an online and offline knowledge-sharing session for rural students. Second, the Biodiversity and Eco fair featured models depicting various aspects of climate change and the causes that contribute to it. The program was graced and addressed by Hon. Chief Guest Narasimha Kamath, Vice President (Manufacturing), and Tata Chemicals.

The knowledge-sharing workshop was conducted by Madhu Menon, Director, Anala Outdoor, and Ahmedabad with Praveen Kumar, Manager, Marine Conservation Project, Wildlife Trust of India, and Satish Trivedi, Deputy Manager, CSR, Tata Chemicals.

It also included conversations about local biodiversity, ecosystems, shifting patterns throughout time, and action-based sustainability. Following the lesson, the speakers went on a field trip to learn about the ecosystem (flora and fauna), the effects of climate change, and best practices for conserving the earth.

“The threat caused by climate change to biodiversity is projected to intensify,” stated Nanda, Chief of HR & CSR at Tata Chemicals Ltd.” However, vibrant ecosystems can also help lessen the impacts of climate change. TCSRD and NABARD‘s workshops not only leverage the medium for knowledge sharing but also promote climate-resilient practices. Our actions are aimed at preserving and strengthening the native flora and fauna.

We are constantly working to enhance the biological hotspot, restore ecological balance, and provide undisturbed habitat for animals and migratory birds, he further added.

The event also included a scholarship distribution ceremony for students, in addition to the workshops. A total of 74 students received the affirmative action scholarship, which assists students in grades nine through twelve from underserved communities. In addition, two special scholarships have been established in honor of Late Shri Darbari Seth, the visionary Chairman of Tata Chemicals. It provides financial help to students from the marginalized population who wish to pursue higher education.

Employees and non-employees alike were awarded and recognized for their contributions to the community, which included tree planting, biodiversity protection, knowledge sharing, education, and many other activities.

Over the years, Tata Chemicals has worked tirelessly to protect local ecosystems. The organization has been able to transform 150 acres of barren land into the Biological reserve hotspot as a consequence of its ongoing efforts, with 40 acres completed last year as part of the Dry Deciduous Forest Development Project. This reserve protects endangered plant species, vegetation, and fauna, as well as pollinator populations, particularly butterflies.
