According to the recent Ipsos Essentials Survey 2022 conducted, the world is struggling with 3 big issues. Coronavirus, Rising prices & Conflict in Ukraine are the top concerns of Urban Indians and they are impacting consumer spending.
The issues have different magnitudes according to the region. Indians & Chinese face Covid 19 as the biggest concern. For most of the other parts of the world, inflation is the biggest problem. Conflict in Ukraine is considered the biggest issue for Germany and Italy.
Commenting on the findings of the syndicated survey, Archana Gupta, Country Service Line Leader, Market Strategy & Understanding (MSU), Ipsos India says that Ipsos Essentials monitors how the people in the world navigate with the new rules of engagement and the resulting impact on our state of mind, state of wallet, and future intentions.
While consumers globally refer to the rising prices(30%) as the top reason for holding back their purchases, 20% said that the items they wanted to purchase were out of stock and 10% felt unsafe in the stores due to Covid.
Gupta further said that the marketers will need to ensure they provide a safe environment for shoppers and replenish stocks.”
We are seeing a change in those eating indoors to be in restaurants, about 52% globally, among the 16 markets polled in April 2022, and 44% of those polled globally claimed to be participating in travel activities.
In contrast to March 2021, the global participation in travel activities stood at 26%, and even dining indoors in a restaurant was a weak 25%.
“It is a cautious rebound and though it bodes well for the economy, consumers are still wary of resuming activities pre-covid,“ added Gupta.
Ipsos Essentials is a syndicated survey that is conducted among consumers in 16 markets monthly.
