C- DAC, the country’s premium institute for computation, has been in a partnership with IIT Gandhinagar. They have been able to unveil the 25th supercomputer of our country, named Param Ananta. This supercomputer is capable of doing computations of 838 teraflops.

This supercomputer will be providing added support to research. It will be used for carrying out important research work in the fields of data science, machine learning, and more.

This project went under development in October 2020. The configuration of this supercomputer includes a mixed set of GPU and CPU, high bandwidth memory modules, and high throughput storage. The supercomputer also has a feature of liquid cooling technology to assist in better performance. It holds the second spot as the most powerful supercomputer in India.

The most powerful supercomputer in our country is Param Siddhi – AI. It ranks 102 in the world on the list of powerful supercomputers. In total, India has 15 supercomputers with a combined capacity of 24 petaflops.

On the world stage, the US has the most powerful supercomputer. It is known by the name – Frontier. It is run by Oak Ridge Leadership facility. Japan’s supercomputer, Fugaku, is second on the list. It is run by Riken Centre for Computational Science.

Frontier has the highest computing power in the world. It is capable of doing multiple exaflops of computing. As compared to these stalwarts, India has less powered supercomputers.

But shortly, we are hopeful of making some high-power supercomputers. These computers will be able to compete on the world stage.

For the unknown, India is starting an initiative called National Supercomputing Mission. Under this program, several supercomputers will come to reality for us. All these supercomputers will help in the research work for the future betterment of our society.

The supercomputers which are being planned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will play a crucial role in the development of our country. They will provide the desired results in different research fields for the betterment of society. These results will also help in improving the condition of other smaller countries. These smaller nations do not have the resources to create such costly supercomputers. So they rely on countries like India to help them with their research in various fields.
