Time and again, Elon Musk, the billionaire co-founder of electric car maker Tesla, has voiced concerns regarding the falling birthrate.

The environment is going to be fine even if we doubled the population, Elon Musk said, adding that having kids is crucial for maintaining civilization. Tesla Boss Elon Musk raised yet another alarm over China’s declining birth rate that may result in a possible “population collapse” shortly. Time and again, Musk has voiced concerns about the difficulty. Responding to an article that acknowledged the issue of the declining population in China, the tech billionaire said that most people still think that China has a one-child policy. He also added that China had its lowest birthrate ever last year, despite having a three-child policy, and at current birth rates, China will lose 40% of individuals every generation, which may lead to population collapse.

New platform In a very recent article, the BBC discovered that the Asian country’s population grew from 1.41212 billion to merely 1.41260 billion in 2021 – a record low increase of just 480,000. The report further highlighted that China’s birth rate has declined from 2.6 in the late 1980s to just 1.5 in 2021. Strict COVID measures have over the last two years been linked to the drop in figures. The country ceased its one-child policy in 2016.

Elon Musk’s comments came at a time when the Chinese government is making an attempt to create awareness regarding the importance of getting married and having children. The South China Morning Post reported some days back that “China has been facing a large demographic challenge because the workforce is shrinking in the rapidly aging country. In 2021, it hit a record low birth rate. Only 10.6 million babies were born in China last year, an all-time low recorded since the Communist Party took power in 1949.

Earlier, rubbishing the narrative that more people are choosing to choose to not have kids because it’s harmful to the environment, he had said it’s “total nonsense.” Last month, in an interview, Musk stated, “Population collapse is the biggest threat to civilization”. In another instance, Musk tweeted: “Contrary to what many think, the richer someone is, the fewer kids they have.” I am a rare exception.”

Some people think that having fewer kids is healthier for the environment. The environment is going to be fine even if we double the population. I do know plenty of environmental stuff. Japan had the lowest birth rate. Having kids is crucial for maintaining civilization. We will not let civilization dwindle into nothing, “Musk said.
