For the India-England International Cricket Series in July 2022, Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) has won a Dynamic John Doe injunction order from the Delhi High Court to stop copyright infringement. SPN will be shielded from unauthorised and unlawful IP publication on the Internet and other social media sites thanks to this.
Due to their involvement in piracy and violation of SPN’s copyright in the broadcast and digital transmission rights for the Cricketing Series, several Multi-System Operators (MSO), Local Cable Operators (LCO), and Websites/Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) are forbidden from communicating with and broadcasting to the public under the terms of the Dynamic John Doe Order.
According to the aforementioned Order, Websites/URLs are not allowed to host, stream, reproduce, distribute, make available to the public, communicate to the public, or otherwise facilitate any cinematographic work, content, programme, or event over which SPN has a copyright on their websites or through the Internet in any way. The aforementioned Order forbids MSOs and LCOs from hosting, streaming, reproducing, distributing, broadcasting, making accessible to the public, and/or communicating to the public any illegal and unlicensed reproduction or broadcast of various copyrighted content on local channels or through other means, including but not limited to the Cricketing Series through cable network.
Additionally, different Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have generally been instructed to ban access to the Websites/URLs. SPN may apply to the Delhi High Court under this John Doe Order and seek the necessary reliefs if it finds any further websites, MSOs, or LCOs violating its copyrights concerning the Cricketing Series. Additionally, a Local Commissioner has been chosen to execute the terms of the aforementioned Order against MSOs and LCOs engaging in piracy by illegally distributing, transmitting, communicating, or redistributing the Cricketing Series without a valid licence from SPN.
To broadcast and convey the aforementioned Cricketing Series to the public in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and the Maldives in 2021, SPN obtained an exclusive licence from the England and Wales Cricket Board Limited (ECB).
However, due to an increase in COVID cases, the aforementioned Cricketing Series had to be called off after 4 test matches. For the duration of the Cricketing Series, which consists of one test match, three T20 matches, and three One-Day International matches starting in July 2022, the present John Doe Order safeguards SPN’s copyright.
The matches will be broadcast on SonyLIV, SPN’s digital platform, and the linear channels SONY SIX, SONY SIX HD, SONY TEN 3, SONY TEN 3 HD, SONY TEN 4, and SONY TEN 4 HD.
