MG Motor India has announced the launch of the 4th season of its ‘MG Changemakers’ initiative in collaboration with 101 India, a youth-focused storytelling platform. 101 India has always tried to unravel stories of subcultures, cultures and countercultures that defy the traditional norms of the society. This initiative is in line with MG and 101 India’s aim to honor and recognize Indian women who are ready to change society with their pure intentions and passion.

This year the focus is on by MG Changemakers is “Sustainability” as a collective and individual imperative calling. With its stated commitment and active pursuit to achieve a healthy, zero-emissions lifestyle for all, MG Motor continuously balances all of its activities with sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions.

Similar to the previous three seasons, this year’s MG Changemakers will also applaud the heroes in their own right. The standard bearers of change and inspirers, this year’s Influential Changemakers are six notable women who have been at the forefront of pioneering and constructive sustainable interventions in society. These pillars not only eloquently echo the company’s sustainability spirit, but also inspire countless others to follow in their footsteps.

The six women are as follows:

 1. Dr. Janak Palta McGilligan, recipient of Padam Shri, who has empowered more than 2lakh rural and tribal women and girls.

 2. Jal Saheli, who works in Bundelkhand on water issues. She has helped prevent drought in more than 100 villages and helped build 450 dams and 56 lakes.

 3. Chandani Khandelwal, a graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) based in Bhubaneswar, is engaged in the production of eco-friendly packaging from bamboo, grass and leaves and in doing so provides a livelihood for 500 women artisans.

4. Monisha Narke, who makes school study desks out of carbon and recycles 750 tons of garbage every year.

5. Licypriya Kangujam, is one of the world’s youngest climate activists. She is often referred to as the “India’s Greta Thunberg”,

 6. Nalini Shekar, co-founder and CEO of Hasiru Dala, is passionate about helping unorganized workers in the garbage industry regain their dignity, better access to decent work and ensure the social security of their families.

MG Changemakers was first introduced in 2018 to recognize and celebrate the spirit of women who inspire social change. Since then, the initiative has recognized a number of women who are working to improve their communities and empower individuals.

With the goal of creating a community of changers across the country, the program encourages participation through an open invitation, where candidates can connect by sharing their inspirational stories. Selected entries are felicitated and their target businesses enhanced and enabled by the MG Motor India network in any way possible.
