World’s first satellite-based two-way messaging solution announced by Qualcomm

To support next-generation smartphones, the snapdragon satellite will be helpful. Beginning in the second half of this year, the satellite will be launched in selected regions. The company revealed that the satellite will be beginning with devices based on the flagship snapdragon 8 gen 2 mobile platforms and also offer global connectivity using mobile messaging from around the world.

The world’s first satellite-based two-way capable messaging solution for premium smartphones called napdragon satellite at the CES 2023 introduced by Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Snapdragon 5G modem RF system will power the latest two-way messaging services. And this is supported by the snapdragon satellite and operational iridium satellite constellation. This will allow OEMs and other service offers to provide global coverage. Speaking on emergency messaging the snapdragon satellite is focusing to support next-generation smartphones that are launched in selected regions beginning in the 2nd half of this year.

Durga Malladi, general manager and vice president of infrastructure and cellular modem, Qualcomm technologies Inc. commenting on the launching said that kicking off for the premium smartphones later this year, this new edition of their snapdragon platform strongly positions them to service offerings across various device categories and enable satellite communication capabilities.

The snapdragon satellite can be expanded to other devices such as IoT, laptops, vehicles, and tablets in terms of connectivity. Notably, the satellite system use developed to support a 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN), as NTN satellite constellations and infrastructure can be easily available.
