Blending tradition with contemporary elements, Lost Stories is back with their latest EP ‘Marigold Soundsystem’

~ Combining electronic pop sounds with melodic flute, ‘Marigold Soundsystem’ features vocals by Jai Dhir ~
Mumbai, 17 February 2023: The Indian music composer and performer duo, Prayag Mehta and Rishab Joshi have crafted for themselves the coveted recipe for success – that is talent, hard work along with luck. With these three ingredients, they have been consistently creating a deep imprint on the Indian and international music circuit. After several successful releases like ‘Mai Ni Meriye’, ‘Vaseegara (Edit)’, ‘Bombay Dreams’ with KSHMR, their remix of Alan Walker’s ‘Faded’, and ‘Mirza’ under their belt, Mumbai’s electronic music duo, Lost Stories is back again to launch their upcoming extended play, titled, ‘Marigold Soundsystem’ on 17th February, 2023. Touted to be the next blockbuster, this EP impeccably fits into the Indian wedding celebrations, through its folk instrumentation, melodic flute emphasis and its Punjabi roots, and altogether, is a perfect presentation of the best of both worlds.

Blending India’s tradition with contemporary elements, the diligently crafted folk-influenced electro-pop tracks pairs Lost Stories’ earthy sound and new-age beats with a soothing rhythm created by Indian classical instruments. This provides the perfect backdrop to the radiant vocals from singer/songwriter Jai Dhir, striking an impeccable harmony of balance and novelty with the tracksLeja, Dori and Taaj fromMarigold Soundsystem’.

Inspired by the vintage Mira Nair aesthetic, ‘Marigold Soundsystem’ resonates a typical Punjabi wedding, at which mainstream sound system vendors are present at the occasion with their local setups. Since both these elements are synonymous with Indian weddings, this perfectly sums up the EP’s underlying message – a perfect amalgamation of Indian nostalgia and new age influence that not only has the ability to hook the listener but present India’s heritage and culture through the lens of how music has transformed over the years. With catchy tunes wrapped in electro-pop-influenced beats, these songs have a really groovy vibe to them, which definitely makes them ideal to play at Indian weddings.

Speaking about the song, Prayag Mehta said, “This is a truly special EP for us as it is with one of our favorite vocalists, Jai Dhir. The tracks – ‘Leja’, ‘Dori’ and ‘Taaj’ have a robust Indian feel to them. The feel of the track along with the dulcet voice of Jai brings back the nostalgia for big Indian weddings. Currently, our goal is to release as much new music as possible and we would love to use our signature ethnic Indian sound and ensure that it reaches listeners in every part of the world.”

Rishab Joshi stated, “We have always ensured that we meticulously curate our sounds and visuals to tell our story. Each song of the EP will pay homage to our innate sounds that the Lost Stories duo has grown up to. We are combining our folk roots with modern-day electronica, cinematic interludes and the forgotten simplicity of nostalgia that we’re known to bring out in our music and deliver an experience that takes the audience back in time, whenever they listen to it. We hope to create a mood for our content and the complementing lyric videos encapsulate the essence of the project in the most accurate way.”

In the past, Lost Stories has worked with Jai Dhir along with Kimera to make a remix of the song ‘Snap’; the original version being created by the well-renowned Punjabi singer, Jai Dhir himself. Lost Stories and Jai Dhir have also worked together for Instagram’s ‘1 Minute Music’ where they released the track, titled, ‘Mirza’. And both these projects garnered immense appreciation from the audience.

Talking about this collaboration, Jai Dhir said, “I had a great experience with Lost Stories on this EP. It’s totally different from what I have done so far and we have put a lot of love into making it. The entire concept being inspired by the nostalgic wedding feeling was something I personally attempted to write for the first time. I think it’s a fact, when Lost Stories and I go to the studio together, we always make hits. You’ll know in the months to come!”

The electronic music duo always have had a major impact on the worldwide and Indian dance music scenes. With frequent remixes and originals and several releases forthcoming along with collaborations with many of India’s most iconic vocalists, Lost Stories continues to be India’s leading DJ, delivering extraordinary electro-pop-folk numbers to the new-age listenership in India and overseas.
