New Delhi, 20, July,2023 : A 67-year-old patient, recently underwent a successful laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, after being diagnosed with a severe gall bladder infection. The case posed significant challenges due to the patient’s age, underlying health conditions, and the advanced stage of the infection.
The patient was initially admitted to a hospital in Lucknow, where it was discovered that the infection in his gall bladder had led to a rupture, spreading the infection into his abdomen and bloodstream. Given his medical history of high blood pressure, diabetes, myasthenia gravis, and osteoporosis, the surgical team deemed a definitive surgery too risky and potentially life-threatening. As an alternative, a drain pipe was inserted to remove the infection, which remained in place for four weeks.
