Landmark Procedure Underscores Expertise and Collaborative Approach in Challenging Medical Cases

Hyderabad, 27th October. 2023: Surgeons at KAMINENI Hospitals, successfully performed simultaneous surgery for genital cancer and coronary artery disease. The patient, 56-year-old Mr. Raghuram (name changed), hailing from Ongole, presented a unique medical challenge that required the collaborative efforts of a team of specialists from various domains.

Following a two-month history of genital ulcer, Mr. Raghuram was diagnosed with cancer which had metastasized to the groin nodes, thereby intensifying the health crisis. Further complicating matters, Mr. Raghuram was a chronic diabetic and was also diagnosed with critical stenosis of two heart arteries, unsuitable for conventional stent placement. The combination of these medical issues classified him as a very high-risk candidate for surgery.

Following detailed counselling of the patient and family, KAMINENI Hospital’s multidisciplinary team of specialists, including surgical oncologists Dr. Krishna Kiran and Dr. Ramchandra, Senior cardiologist Dr. Sagar Bhuyar, CTVS surgeon Dr. Rajesh Deshamukh, and Dr. Suresh Esampalli, cardiac anesthetist, successfully executed a combined Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG) and partial penectomy with bilateral ilioinguinal node dissection.

Dr. Krishna Kiran, Surgical Oncologist at KAMINENI Hospitals, shared his perspective on this groundbreaking surgery, “Mr. Raghuram’s case was a challenging one, as he had both genital cancer and coronary artery disease. To tackle such a complex scenario, it was crucial for the surgical oncology and cardiac teams to work closely together. The success of this simultaneous surgery demonstrates the advanced capabilities of our hospital and the dedication of our medical team to providing comprehensive care.”

Dr. Sagar Bhuyar, Senior cardiologist also shared his thoughts, “Addressing complex cases like this requires a team effort and a patient-centric approach. We are immensely pleased with the outcome and are grateful for the trust that the patient and his family placed in us.”

Despite the inherent complexities, the patient recovered remarkably well after the surgery and was discharged just five days later. The successful outcome of this intricate procedure highlights the advanced capabilities and collaborative spirit of KAMINENI Hospital’s medical professionals.
