The event witnessed an incredible turnout of about 400 attendees, comprising local authorities, CBM India staff, and persons with disabilities actively engaged in CBM India’s transformative programs

Bengaluru, December 27, 2023 — CBM India, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons with disabilities across India, proudly continues its commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event took place on December 19th, 2023, at Brundavan School in Jigani Hobali, Anekal Taluk, Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in recognizing the achievements and resilience of persons with disabilities.

The event successfully acknowledged the contributions and accomplishments of persons with disabilities in the community, serving as a platform to honor their achievements, advocate for inclusion, and emphasize the imperative need for a more accessible and inclusive society. The event included speeches by CBM India staff and local authorities, a prize distribution to celebrate CBM India’s program participants who distinguished themselves in game competitions held by the organization, and a certificate presentation to students completing CBM India’s computer literacy course. A unique segment of the event featured CBM India’s program participants sharing their journeys and experiences, highlighting the positive impact of CBM India’s livelihood programs on their lives and celebrating their resilience and agency for change. This underscored CBM India’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive society where persons with disabilities are enabled to achieve their full potential.

Mr. Sony Thomas, Executive Director of CBM India Trust, expressed his sentiments, stating, “As we gather today to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we reflect on the transformative journeys of our program participants. Through shared stories of empowerment, belonging, and seizing meaningful opportunities, we witnessed the resilience that breaks barriers. CBM India remains committed to fostering inclusion, and we are proud to congratulate our participants on their remarkable achievements.’’

Ms. Parveen, an Anganwadi teacher, a social worker, and a participant in CBM India’s Inclusive Livelihood initiative, shared her perspective on the transformative journey and the positive changes experienced through CBM India’s initiatives. She said, “CBM India’s program gave me the confidence to explore various job opportunities. Now, I encourage fellow community members to reach beyond their limits. On behalf of our community, I want to express gratitude to CBM India and their team.”

Distinguished guests at the event included esteemed personalities such as Dr. Ravi C. R. (Taluk Health Officer, Anekal Taluk), Ms. Indramma Sampangi Ram Nayak (Panchayat President, Kallubalu Grama Panchayat), Ms. Suma Ramaswamy (Panchayat President, Haragadde Grama Panchayat), among others.

CBM India’s initiatives in Jigani have made a substantial impact on the lives of persons with disabilities, offering tailoring courses, supporting goat-rearing endeavors, providing seed funding for entrepreneurship, establishing inclusive learning centers, conducting computer literacy courses, and implementing home-based therapy programs for individuals with severe disabilities.
