Encourages people to consult their Gynaecologist to dispel myths about contraceptives and choose the right one.

December 27th, 2023: In response to evolving discussions and concerns surrounding contraceptive safety, Ankura Hospital announced the launch of an awareness campaign on birth control and family planning in consultation with the Gynaecologist. The objective of the campaign is to encourage people to adopt responsible behaviour by choosing the right contraceptive and avoid the anxiety and challenges of unplanned pregnancy. The campaign also aims to sensitize reaffirming its commitment to empowering individuals through informed decision on use of contraceptives with a focus on safety and efficacy.

In India, the general awareness of contraception is almost universal (98% among women and 98.6% among men: NFHS-3). According to Both NFHS (National Family Health Survey) and DLHS (District Level Household and Facility Survey) surveys the use of contraceptives is generally rising. Contraceptive use among married women (aged 15-49 years) was 56.3% in NFHS-3 (an increase of 8.1 percentage points from NFHS-2) while corresponding increase between DLHS-2 & 3 is relatively lesser (from 52.5% to 54.0%). Although there is awareness, there is still a lot of hesitation and indecisiveness on the use and choice of the contraceptive methods, not only in rural but also in urban areas. Lot of misconceptions and myths about use of contraceptives are also responsible for people avoiding them. In an effort to bridge this gap Ankura Hospital has launched the campaign to invite couples to consult the Gynaecologist to help identify and understand which contraceptive suits them best.

As the landscape of contraceptives continues to expand with newer options and advancements, Ankura Hospital recognizes the importance of addressing potential risks associated with these methods. Acknowledging the significance of recent discussions around safety, Ankura Hospital emphasizes the importance of engaging in thorough consultations with healthcare professionals to understand potential risks and benefits tailored to individual health profiles.

Dr. V P Jyotsna, Senior Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologistat Ankura Hospital, remarked, “In the ever-evolving field of contraceptives, it’s essential for individuals to have access to accurate information and engage in open discussions with healthcare providers.
