New Delhi, September 5, 2024 : The much-anticipated POWERGEN India 2024, co-located with Indian Utility Week and the landmark initiative Bharat Electricity, commenced yesterday at Yashobhoomi, IICC Dwarka, New Delhi. The event, from September 4 to 6, brings together the world’s foremost energy leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to explore collaborative pathways for a sustainable energy future in India’s Amrit Kaal era.
The inaugural session, titled “Explore, Collaborate, Access: Opportunities in Amrit Kaal Through Energy Transition,” featured key addresses by esteemed dignitaries, including Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, and Shri P. K. Pujari, IAS (Retd.), Honorary Chairperson of the Governing Council for POWERGEN India, and Indian Utility Week.
Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi, in his address, emphasized the significance of the event and the initiatives, stating “This platform is not just to showcase India’s energy revolution, but it is a catalyst for the global collaboration. We are gathered here to discuss one of the most critical missions of our time that is green energy transition. A platform like Bharat Electricity, POWERGEN India and India Utility Week 2024 offers stakeholders an opportunity to explore the new trajectories, discuss the decarbonization, and obtain opportunities for sustainable and accessible energy.”
He further added, “Today, India ranks 4th globally in installed renewable energy capacity. India’s progress serves as a model for other countries, seeking the energy transition to the low carbon economy. To accelerate the transition, the government has taken several path breaking initiaves.” He further added, “The government has approved a substantial outlay of Rs. 7,453 crore to support the installation of 1000 MW of offshore wind energy projects.”
Shri P. K. Pujari echoed these sentiments and expressed, “This co-located event is about fostering partnerships and collaboration. The event provides a platform for global players to share their expertise, exchange ideas, and explore new business opportunities. We are here to facilitate discussion on energy reforms, decarbonization, and breakthrough technologies.” He also added, “The energy transition is not just about replacing fossil fuels, it is about transforming the entire energy ecosystem.”
The first day of the event featured a series of impactful sessions, including the “Curtain Raiser – Hydrogen Horizons: Empowering India’s Energy Transition & Energy Independence,” moderated by Shri Nitin Khanna, Managing Director – Energy, Accenture in India. The session touched upon multiple factors concerning green hydrogen. While Dr. R.K. Malhotra, President, Hydrogen Association of India, spoke about the commitment to producing around 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, Mr. Rajat Seksaria, CEO, Green Hydrogen at Adani New Industries spoke about the company’s approach to have a complete control over the supply chain. The role of grid stability was also highlighted by Shri Som Shantanu, Asia Engineering Leader, Gas Power, GE Vernova, in the session.
Another highlight was the “Leadership Plenary: Charting the Energy Horizon – Exploring Collaborative Pathways for Sustainable Access in the Amrit Kaal Era,” where leaders from various sectors discussed strategies for ensuring sustainable energy access in India’s rapidly evolving energy market.
The event also featured an “Industry Plenary: Steering India’s Energy Future,” focusing on the role of key stakeholders in navigating the challenges and opportunities in India’s energy sector. The session conversed that the power demand has been increasing by 8 to 9% per annum in the last two years following the economic revival post-COVID, and the Ministry of Power has developed a detailed action plan around it.
POWERGEN India 2024, Indian Utility Week, and Bharat Electricity, with over 200 exhibitors, more than 120 expert speakers, and 8000 professionals offers a unique platform for global energy stakeholders to collaborate and explore the unprecedented opportunities within India’s energy landscape. The event is supported by key ministries, including the Ministry of Power, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, reflecting the Government of India’s strong commitment to the energy transition.
The day concluded with the Bharat Electricity Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to India’s energy sector, followed by a gala night and networking reception, providing further opportunities for collaboration among industry leaders.
