Medhavi Skills University (MSU), Sikkim, successfully established the Mahatma Gandhi Centre (MGC) for Skill Development in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with Helping Hands, an NGO led by Mr. Robin Hibu (IPS), Special Commissioner of Police Vigilance and Public Transport Safety Division, Delhi Police. This partnership marks a significant step towards empowering the youth of Ziro with valuable vocational skills and ensuring their economic independence through sustainable employment opportunities in India and abroad.
As a skill training institute, MGC is set to provide advanced training in two key domains, electrical and plumbing, with an initial intake of 24 trainees per course. The centre boasts a fully equipped practical lab alongside theoretical learning facilities, ensuring a balanced, hands-on education for the students. The initiative will particularly focus on school dropouts, giving them the skills and training needed to secure jobs in India and abroad.
DGP Robin Hibu, the first Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Arunachal Pradesh and President of Helping Hands stated “We handle lakhs of criminal cases in the National Capital Region and of these, 65 percent of the criminals are young people who are school dropouts.” Highlighting the need for skill development and channelizing youth in the positive direction, Mr. Hibu added, “The opening of the Skill Development Training Centre at Ziro is an attempt to fruitfully engage the school dropout youth of the district and impart them the necessary training and skills to be employable in the private sector companies.”
During the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Pravesh Dudani, Founder and Chancellor of MSU said “We are deeply committed to the vision of transforming lives through skills-based education. The Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Hong, Ziro represents a beacon of hope for the youth in the region. By combining our university’s world-class training with the noble efforts of Helping Hands, we are confident that this initiative will lead to prosperity and growth for the local community.”
Mr. Kuldip Sarma, Co-founder and Pro-chancellor of Medhavi Skills University, spoke about the long-term impact of the initiative, stating “Our goal at Medhavi is to create an ecosystem where education meets industry needs. The Mahatma Gandhi Centre will not only impart skills but also instill confidence and ambition in the youth of Arunachal Pradesh. We envision a future where this centre becomes a hub for innovation and excellence in skill-based training.”
