National, October 9th 2024: péro, by Aneeth Arora, has always come to be known for its
larger-than-life unconventional shows at fashion weeks. This time was no different. The
Fashion Design Council of India and Lakmē Fashion Week presented péro’s delightfully
whimsical collection ‘HELLO péro’ as the opening show of the new season on October 9,
2024 in New Delhi.

Interestingly, this year also marks a special milestone–the 15th birthday of péro. To
celebrate this moment, péro collaborated with Hello Kitty, a joyful union that was destined to happen. What makes this occasion even more special is that it is also Hello Kitty’s 50th
anniversary.

The Spring Summer 2025 collection, HELLO péro, features everyday favourites of Hello
Kitty like cherries, strawberries, apples, creamy cupcakes, milk cartons –through péro’s
expressive design vocabulary as textiles and techniques on garments.

The playfulness of Japanese Harajuku Street style is infused with Hello Kitty’s signature
colour palette of pinks, reds, blues, and sunshine yellow. All of which lend a whimsical
vibrancy to shirts, dresses, skirts, trousers, and jackets.

Nostalgia fuels this collaboration which is reinterpreted in péro’s distinctly original quirky
style called ‘Cottage Core Kawaii’. Feast your eyes on fantastical print exploration featuring
dainty Japanese florals, nautical sailor stripes, and péro’s signature surface
ornamentations—all of which spark unimaginable joy. The intricately detailed,
richly-embroidered beadwork, fabric origami, tassels, hand crochet (a staple every season),
applique, patchwork, and custom-shaped wooden buttons lend a playful dimension to
contemporary design. Textiles such as Chanderi, Mashru, silks and Jamdani have been used
to create this collection. Additionally, the Hello Kitty charms, socks, bags, and hats, and
rumāls are the perfectly cute add-ons.

The Indianness of péro rests in the textile process, where materials pass through the hands of one craftsperson to the other, belonging to different parts of India, to carry forward the
tradition of the hand made, and creating pieces that are at once unique. The resulting garment evokes a sense of culture from where it originates, one which communicates in such a way that the wearer looks equally at ease in the streets of Paris or London, as she does here in India. The look is not about an age group or season; it is about a mindset, a willingness to incorporate the effortless style of the local people in one’s attire.

A textile graduate from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and a fashion graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Aneeth prefers to be known as a ‘textile and dress maker’ and firmly believes that the local people are the real trend setters of the time. The inception of péro was in 2009, with the USP of making its own handcrafted textiles in
different parts of India, and with an aim to make a global product that connects with people all round the world.

Over the past 15 years, péro has worked in close collaboration with more than 1,000 weavers and craftspeople across various regions in the country to innovate handwoven, dyed and printed textiles.

Aneeth Arora, founder & designer of péro, shares her excitement, “I am so happy and honoured to celebrate péro’s 15th anniversary by opening Lakmē Fashion Week in
partnership with Fashion Design Council of India. This collection, in particular, is very close
to my heart as it is a celebration of our collective childhood nostalgia reinterpreted in our
own quirky style. Think cottage core but with a twist.”
