As India grapples with mental and physical health issues, a unique initiative aimed at using sports for holistic health has completed 7 years. A-LEAGUE, India’s first 365-day recreational sports league founded in 2017, has crossed the 7-year milestone completing over 2300 matches and with over 1600 players in the city. The community operating on WhatsApp groups has focused games for 50+ age groups to give them an opportunity. The league has been a catalyst for improving holistic health of the players.
Says Jimmy Mathew, Chief Coordinator, A-LEAGUE By Alaaya Nation, “Our aim is to use the love and passion towards your favourite game, to keep people in a happier state while fostering human connection. We have regular auctions, player statistics, news clips and celebrations of milestones. In an urbane setting, a sporting league that inspires people to take the field every evening is a breath of fresh air. We thank the DON BOSCO institutions for supporting the cause with their sporting infrastructure”.
The league plans to include more sports other than cricket and football and also dedicated games for women. The league has various concepts including Rang De India, which is a tourney having teams divided on the basis of culture and languages to promote culture amongst the new generation.
