Nov 18, 2012: The recently launched Aakash-2, the improved version of Aakash-1 is looking beyond the education space and planning to enter into bigger markets. Datawind is looking to market these tablets to various state government departments who in turn would be using it for implementing various programs. After getting an order of 100,000 tables from MHRD, various other government agencies have started approaching Datawind. The company has already started talking to Ministry of commerce and Ministry of Rural Development. The government has also plans to use Aakash-2 for verification of biometric data for Unique Identification Authority of India project.
