Micron Technology, which is one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world, is planning to form collaborations with some of the top-level Indian Institutes to aid the process of innovation in technology.
Micron tech has a legacy with more than 43,000 patients. Micron University Research Alliance (URAM) is an institution that was introduced by the Micron Tech to bring together academic institutions, advanced research labs, start-ups, industry associations, and government agencies.
URAM focuses on building talent in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) which aims to reach over 10,000 students. Micron Tech will guide the program`s efforts to bridge collaboration across different institutions.
The organization plans to advance the research and development in 5G, the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and the technology of autonomous driving. The technology of Micron is used in smartwatches, vehicles, and precision medicines and provides storage and memory solutions to various industries.
According to Mr. Anand Ramamoorthy, who is the Managing Director of Micron India, the engineering pool in India has tremendous potential and the company plans to employ approximately 5,000 team members over the next 4 to 5 years to accelerate and strengthen the critical engineering capabilities, machine learning, data analytics, and smart manufacturing.
Top institutes like IITs, BITS, IISc have started the URAM programs.
The students from the partner universities will benefit from the program by access to Micron labs, academic support, technical training, and mentorship program by the experts from Micron.
The faculties of the institutes believe that the expertise provided by the Micron and the student talent at the institutes will enable further research in the growing field of technology.
URAM will align its efforts with the policy think-tank NITI Aayog, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge, and T-Hub initiatives. The standards established by the IT industry body Nasscom will also be adhered to by URAM.
Micron has the opportunity for value-added growth and access to a large pool of engineering talent in India. The company plans to honor all 200 offers made in the last campus cycle and will continue to hire aggressively in this year`s campus cycle.
Micron identifies that the curriculum that is followed by certain institutes in not industry-focused and the company is planning to address the gap. The company plans to train the students in research programs so they have adequate knowledge when they join the company.
