Dec 1, 2012: In a move which may be a breather for diesel car owners in India, Government in parliament made a statement that they are
not considering imposing green tax on diesel cars. This statement came close on the heels after Supreme Court asked the government to explore a possibility of charging green tax on diesel cars. There has been a plea to consider imposing 25% green tax on diesel cars in the national capital and NCR region to bring down the pollution levels. The plea says that the pollution levels in the region has gone up even though the entire transport system has moved to CNG because of increased use of diesel cars. The automobile industry has strongly come against this plea as diesel technology used now is said to be cleaner and does not pollute the environment.
