March 19, 2013: Microsoft which launched Office 2013 last year as part of taking bold steps in the world of computing announced to launch an online ‘Office’ store so as to push its Office 2013 suite of products. The company which has been facing a stiff competition from Google is trying to customize the software as well based on the requirements of the users. This online ‘Office’ store which is in addition to the existing ‘Windows’ store will help the users to buy a range of Office 365 products like Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc.
Microsoft is keenly relooking at the way how it sells software to individuals and enterprises globally and is coming out with new ways for developers to develop apps as well. The company is asking developers to develop apps and put them on the online stores. Microsoft will be rewarding the developers based on the number of downloads for that particular app. The company would be sharing nearly 80 per cent of the revenues with the app developer.
Microsoft off late has been facing a stiff competition from Apple and Google and this move of theirs of taking on to the online mode for sale of apps and sharing 80 per cent of revenues with app developers is surely going to make the competitors sit up and watch.
