Now experience free wi-fi internet facility on Indian Railways

April 2, 2013: How about browsing internet using wi fi on Indian Railways? Yes, you heard it right. The train journeys are going to be more enjoyable from now as Indian Railways is launching its free wi-fi based internet services. Indian Railways will be launching this new service starting from today on New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani. Wi-fi based internet services will allow the passengers to do video chat, access email, browse the web along with host of other features. In the initial days in the moving train the passengers will get 4 Mbps download speed and 512 Kbps upload speed.

The technology that Indian Railways would be using will be that which is proved by Techno Sat Comm (India) Ltd. An intelligence technology is being used which will allow to prioritise the traffic in case if there is congestion. If there is more congestion, priority will be given for applications like online transactions and e-mail. Passengers who would like to avail this service need to provide their PNR No., Identity Proof No. and mobile number. Once it is provided they will get a high security password on their mobile phone which they can use it for logging into the facility.

Indian Railways have plans of introducing wi-fi services to fifty other trains this year and to scale up these services so as to offer multimedia entertainment with internet television in the days to come. The Railways have ambitions plans of introducing these services on Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains based on the feedback of passengers.
