On July 29th, the International Advertising Association (IAA) India branch will organize a summit on Gender Sensitisation in Media at ITC Maratha, Andheri, Mumbai. The topic is Gender Portrayal, and it spans the artistic range from a 30-second TV commercial to a 3-hour film. Prominent industry figures will talk about why it is critical to Break The Bias that surrounds the business when it comes to gender depiction.
The Voice Of Change, an IAA initiative, was started as a motivational interviewing comms action plan which was focused on addressing the imbalanced depiction of gender in the field of advertising and promotion with the debut of the Geena Davis study with Unicef, in September last year, the IAA – India made the first step towards the transformational approach. The study’s findings, based on an analysis of over 1000 advertisements, revealed a troubling trend of widespread gender stereotyping and bias. We want to confront the issue of gender discrimination in the media and believe that by working together, we can effect much-needed reform in the system.”
