A selfie Smartphone Lava Iris X5 launched for Rs 8,649

Sept 2, 2014:  India based handset vendor Lava has been teasing a new smartphone in its X lineup claiming that it is tailor made for taking selfie photos. On Monday, Lava created headlines with the launch of the Iris X5 smartphone that is priced at Rs 8,649.

Lava has made the smartphone exclusively available via the online retailer Amazon. Also, the retailer is providing a free 16 GB micro SD card, flip cover and screen protector bundled along with the handset as an introductory offer.

On the technical specifications, the Lava Iris X5 is given a standard display of 5 inch size IPS panel that can render excellent viewing angles and a decent color reproduction. Also, this screen carries a HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels that translates to an average pixel density of 293 pixels per inch.

On the hardware front, there is a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor of unspecified chipset that operates under the hood of the Iris X5. This processor is backed by a moderate RAM capacity of 1 GB that should suffice in handling the multi-tasking requirements. Furthermore, fueled by Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system the device bundles 8 GB of internal storage capacity that can be extended externally by another 32 GB with the help of a micro SD card slot that is onboard.

Talking about the highlight features of the Lava Iris X5, it comes with a spectacular camera set that comprises of an 8 MP primary snapper with OmniVision BSI sensor, 5p lens, f/2.2 aperture and dual LED flash for a superior camera performance. This high-end rear snapper is accompanied by a selfie focused 5 MP front facer that is teamed up with LED flash, 4 element and 84 degree wide viewing angle lens that even accommodate a group in a selfie frame.

Other goodies onboard include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG for a seamless connectivity and file transfer. There is a 2,100 mAh battery under the hood to power a decent backup to the smartphone.

When it comes to competition, the Lava smartphone will find a tough challenge with the existing selfie focused smartphones including the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Karbonn Titanium S19 , newly launched Xolo Play 8X-1100 and others.
