Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana for 51,000 women: PM Modi’s gift to Varanasi on Raksha Bandhan

Union minister Piyush Goyal with Independent Charge for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy in the Government of India announced that about 51,000 women and girls of Varanasi will be insured under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)  which was a gift from the Prime Minister for them on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana is a government-backed accident insurance scheme in India, formally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015 and is available to people between 18 and 70 years of age and who has a bank account. It holds an annual premium of 12 % excluding service tax and the amount will be automatically debited from the bank account. In case of any accidental death or full disability, the payment will be given to the nominee appointed by the insurer. The insurance cover given for death equals to case Rs 200,000 and in case of partial disability it is Rs 100,000.

The Union minister proposed that the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana scheme was a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower a large number of women in the country. Goyal while wishing Raksha Bandhan to the people of the Varanasi constituency on behalf of the Prime Minister said that about 51,000 women and girls in Varanasi are set to receive this insurance scheme which was announced as a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They are entitled to an accident cover of Rs 2 lakhs which will be provided to them at a premium of Rs 12 per year.

He also added that the whole scheme will be provided free of cost. They expect to receive a full time premium charge of Rs 201 from various charitable trusts, NGO’s and other organizations.  He asked the support of all the BJP workers to spread awareness about this insurance scheme facility in each and every household so that every woman can get benefit from this.
