Adani Group and GMR Group have purchased the Gujarat and Telangana franchises in Ultimate Kho Kho, which is set to debut in 2022 with the goal of promoting the local sport.
The league, which is being promoted by Amit Burman, Chairman of the Dabur Group, in collaboration with the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), aims to modernise the indigenous sport of Kho-Kho by adopting a modern-day professional structure that will bring the fast-paced action to the fans’ living rooms in a new avatar.
“I am thrilled to welcome the Adani Group & GMR on-board on our Ultimate Kho Kho adventure,” Tenzing Niyogi, CEO of Ultimate Kho Kho, stated in welcoming the two team owners. We are determined to offer this sporting spectacle to the masses of India and it’s of great pride to cooperate with corporates as stakeholders.
This is a significant step forward in the development of Ultimate Kho Kho as a sports movement.” Adani Sportsline, a subsidiary of the Adani Group, is already affiliated with a number of sporting leagues in the country and is committed to contributing to the creation of an ecosystem that supports future sports icons and inspires the country’s youth.
“We are thrilled to be able to promote yet another exciting homegrown sport at Adani Sportsline,” said Pranav Adani, Director – Adani Enterprises.
“We’ve always believed that taking a professional, structured approach to promoting homegrown sports and increasing engagement among a national audience is the best way to do so.
” We are confident that the Ultimate Kho Kho League will do wonders for this much-loved traditional sport, based on our experience with the Kabaddi and Boxing Leagues.
Our choice to collaborate with this league is a natural extension of our goal to create a world-class ecosystem that fosters sporting talent, promotes the sports economy, and acts as a catalyst in India’s quest to become a top sporting nation.” The Telangana team has been signed by GMR Sports in order to capitalise on the popularity of Kho-Kho in South India and promote it further.
GMR, which is dedicated to the development and commercialization of sports leagues, is hopeful that its partnership with UKK would allow ‘Kho-Kho’ break free and fly to new heights in terms of popularity.
“Our goal at GMR Sports is to encourage sports among youngsters, interact with the larger community, and create a supportive ecosystem.” The company has done pioneering work in promoting popular sports such as Cricket and other indigenous sports like as Kabaddi and Wrestling across India and abroad since its foundation over 15 years ago.
“With a commitment to develop talent at the grassroots level, it has invested in offering access to professional sports by establishing Sports Training Academies across India,” stated Kiran Kumar Grandhi, GMR Group’s Corporate Chairman.
