Nellore: Adani Skill Development Centre, an arm of Adani enterprises has created a Defensive Driving module for the drivers in the Krishnapatnam port with the objective of preparing the drivers not to be fast and furious but safe and sound. Adani Foundation, through this course, focuses on decreasing the risk of collisions and traffic violations, minimising liability risks and legal costs, reducing insurance premiums and workers’ compensation claims, lower vehicle repair and replacement expenses, and protecting business operations and brand identity while reducing business costs and liabilities. The course introduced the drivers to the major characteristics of defensive driving, namely Knowledge, Alertness, Foresight, Judgement, and Skill.

He is concerned about the rising number of road accidents in the country and feels there is a need for safe drivers. Companies face liability risks and legal expenses as a result of employee traffic accidents, along with lost productivity, increased insurance costs, and increased workers’ compensation costs.”
As per data, 4,03,116 accidents were reported in 2021 which resulted in 1,55,622 deaths and injured 3,71,884. Overspeeding accounts for 58.7 per cent of the total accidents, while dangerous/careless driving or overtaking comprised 25.7 per cent.
Buduru Sivakumar, 27, from Muthukur village in Nellore district, has a similar story and after training in defensive driving, he now works as a light motor vehicle (LMV) driver, working with M/S Royal Marine, Adani Krishnapatnam Port. As he puts it, “The driver training program teaches learners how to drive effectively. We have been taught how to identify and eliminate bad driving behaviours and how to drive safely,”
Also hailing from a remote village in Nellore district, Tandra Vamsi also took up a month-long skill training course in LMV Level-3 Driving and today is placed with M/S Royal Marine at Adani Krishnapatnam Port. hE ADDS, “Since receiving training, I have learned that trained drivers are less likely to cause accidents and they react faster and take action to prevent them.”
